MY JOURNEY:

My journey in business has taken me on many different adventures and finally led me to designing my own planning and intention tools as well as writing about and sharing my business journey.

My background is creatively varied: Fashion design, website and graphic design, illustration, marketing and writing.

I always knew that I would work for myself long before I even finished high school, I felt it was in my bones – I just had to figure out what that something was going to be and of course, it was always going to be creative.

Studying Fashion Design instilled a great love for illustration which I continued to hone after graduating and knew that I wanted to bring this into business in some way so I started to sell my designs as art prints and greetings cards.

I understood early on in on this journey that there was no support system in place where people could come together and celebrate their creativity so I decided to create it.

So, I began by setting up an art blog, with the aim of supporting creatives and sharing their work. I saw it as a more of a hobby at the beginning as it was a project that allowed me to learn and develop my skills. It took a while for me to realise that I had developed an obsession with building websites – I enjoyed the journey of creating A Place for Creation – tearing it down and rebuilding it whenever I learnt something new.

Let’s just say that creating this site set me up in good stead for the journey I was about to embark on.

The site eventually turned into a membership site which had around 500 members – My intention here was to make it into a platform where creatives could support each other.

Whilst on my illustration business venture, I built and grew the creative community, honed my web, graphic, marketing and illustrative skills then started to work with clients on their websites, branding, marketing strategies and helping others create a business they love through the power of planning and intention setting.

MY BIG ‘WHY’:

In a nutshell, there was no one out there to help me when I wanted to start a business. I had to figure it all out on my own and that journey could have been a lot smoother if I had the help I needed back then. I understand the journey of an artist trying to figure it all out while holding onto the hope of one day quitting the nine to five and it is damn tough…

When I graduated in 2009 I was so excited to go out into the world, find a creative job and then start working on building my own business but that dream was hit by the recession and finding any type of job was difficult. Eventually, jobs came and went but I was slowly losing my creativity and I ended up working in a corporate job that I hated. It totally killed my creativity. I had no time for it, no space for it, no energy for it and I was super pissed about it all.

So… I made it my mission to help other creatives to STAY positively creative, be happy about it and map out the path for it. I am a huge believer in grabbing hold of your creative flair with both hands and steering it in a direction that suits you rather than letting other factors (or people) steer it for you.

SUCCESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION. THE DOING IS OFTEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE OUTCOME.

‘I SET MY INTENTION’ PROJECT:

I have been working with intention and practising meditation since 2011 – This and building my own business has been a huge journey of self-discovery and creating my own tools to help me through it is something that I feel I couldn’t have managed without. So, as part of my mission in helping people stay creative, I am creating a community of like-minded people who can come together and share their experiences in life and business and feel supported in manifesting their dreams.

FUN FACTS:

  • I studied Fashion Design at Leeds Art University.
  • That same illustrative adventure I mentioned above eventually turned into a ‘gift shop with a twist’ and further developed into aplaceforintention.com.
  • I won an award from Theo Paphitis for A Place for Intention.
  • I am a super duper massive Harry Potter geek. – I’m in Ravenclaw and my Patronus is a Mountain Hare 💪
  • My planners and stickers are some of my favourite possessions. #PlannerNerd
  • My favourite author after JK Rowling is Gabby Bernstein. Both of these ladies have changed my life in so many ways.
  • I have a weird obsession with maps – If it has a map on it, it’s likely I will either want to buy it or just stare at for ages. (If you have any old maps that you no longer need, you know what to do 😉)
  • I have a huge interest in astrology, esoteric philosophies, poetry, meditation and energy healing. (I plan to take my Reiki Level I and then Level II towards the end of the year.)
